Yoga Corner at HTW

The Yoga program at Hindu Temple of Wisconsin (HTW) provides basic instructions and practice sessions on weekly bases. This is a community service program and anyone from metro Milwaukee area interested in yoga can participate.

The type of yoga taught is Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga. The format is designed and taught by Professor Laxmankumar Sannellapanavar from Karnataka, India in 2007. There was six month long yoga course and several of his certified students now teach yoga at on voluntary basis. Dr. Thim P. Nanda, MD, heads the Vinyasa yoga which is more aerobic and challenging. Aekta Shah, certified yoga instructor, is the program director of the yoga program at HTW.

Adult Yoga: More and more adults today understand the value yoga provides in once life. Yoga helps reduce stress, increase flexibility, massage all organs of the body, and is an excellent way to tone muscles. Yoga offers health benefits beyond general fitness and can relieve symptoms associated with serious medical problems.

Kids’ Yoga: Initiative of year 2009 is to have kids’ yoga program (age range 5 to 15 years). Learning yoga at the early age provides lot of benefits. Children today are under lot of stress. Yoga helps kids develop better body awareness, self control, flexibility, coordination and more. Kids can always carry these skills beyond the class and into their daily routine.

How to Join: Interested individuals must complete the application available at the Temple office or download here. Pay the fees at the Temple office and obtain a receipt. Below is the fee* structure (subject to change upon review). You are required pre-pay before starting any class.

It is essential to spend at least six sessions for beginners to familiarize with the program, to avoid any injuries and to learn correct methods of performing asana. Be sure to get authorization from your doctor before starting yoga if you have any medical condition.

* The classes are held at Jain Temple, library hall. Classes will not take place on major holidays.
