Senior Yoga CourseThis is a specially designed course for seniors with their needs in mind. It is slow paced and full of medical information to go along with yoga practice. The fee is $90 for 3 month course, once a week on Sundays 9 am to 10.30 am for 12 weeks. Starts on June 13, 2010. Held at the Jain Temple or in the auditorium at HTW. Enrollment is open and registration at HTW office is required prior to joining the session on Sunday. Yoga ProgramsYoga Corner at HTWThe yoga program is now in its 4th year, It has achieved most of the goals set when the program was started, the main objectives were 1) provide information about yoga and its benefits 2) provide opportunity to learn and practice many aspects of yoga 3) training and certification in yoga at the beginners and intermediate level 4) meet the needs of the community by providing gentle yoga practice as well as challenging and aerobic and more on a scientific basis, the Vinyasa yoga which is structured and highly disciplined system of practice. Vast majority of yoga participants are beginners, but small number of participants are very experienced and contribute to the learning and training of junior members of the yoga team. Professor Laxman Kumar sannellappanavar (known as Guruji) founder and head of Utsahi institute of yoga and holistic health sciences and cultures, Dharwad KARNATAKA INDIA was instrumental in starting yoga program at HTW, But he left the responsibility of organization and teaching , class structure and act as a liaison between Temple administration and the yoga community to Thim P. Nanda, MD. The yoga program has grown and now is quiet popular in the community under his leadership. The yoga program offers once a year, 1) YOGA SEMINAR, 2) INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION in October. Classes offered 1) General yoga classes 2 days a week are offered, see schedule of classes for details 2) Vinyasa yoga classes are offered for serious students of yoga once a year, requires enrollment in 6 months course and 3 months of post course training for certification 3) Kids yoga is offered once a week on Saturdays (ages 5-11) 4) Beginners yoga classes are specially designed classes for newcomers to yoga and strongly recommended for all new comers 5) Yoga for Seniors is a specially designed class for senior need in mind, strongly recommended for 55+ age group 6) Meditation classes are offered once a week for those who are interested only in meditation and are willing to group sittings on a regular basis (Dr. Nanda) 7) Pranayama classes are not offered separately but are incorporated into all yoga classes.
